Hey Mama...

Welcome to my little corner of the 'matrescence' world - I am so glad that you are here! My name is Emily - I am half-Bulgarian/half-English and I grew up in Wales, where I live with my South-African husband and my wild toddler! I am a Christian and I believe that God has a very special place in his heart for all mamas - whatever their story - and I am passionate about providing support, guidance, care (and giggles!) for all  as they experience matrescence and discover their new identity. It would be an honour to be your Postnatal Doula or simply to support you to understand more about the incredible transition to motherhood.

My Story

I became a Postnatal Doula in May 2025, having pressed pause on my 12-year career as a leader in the charity sector. I have always been involved in some way with mothers, families and little people: including supporting Syrian and Iraqi families in Bulgarian refugee camps; teaching Romani toddlers and in a Montessori kindergarten; and most recently managing a large charity accommodation site for families whose children were in hospital, as well as new mamas whose babies were on the neo-natal intensive care units. I have a particular passion for supporting women seeking sanctuary or who are socially-excluded, and I have a wealth of experience in the healthcare/ maternity/ migration and community support sectors more widely.

In 2013, I decided to commit to following Jesus and since then I have discovered that my Creator God made me (and you!) for a purpose and that he will always be by my side. It has been a whirlwind spiritual adventure of discovery and I enjoy sharing the love and peace he has for me with others too. I commit to praying for each of my clients and mamas in my own time and I have seen specific answers to prayer and miracles too!

I met my husband online while I was living in Bulgaria and we settled down in South Wales where we welcomed our special 'rainbow baby' boy to the world in 2022. Together, my baby and I experienced a range of highs and lows: From 3c tearing at birth, tongue-tie, mixed/combo/triple feeding, intrusive thoughts and feeling wholly unprepared for what matrescence entailed.... yet also an incredible, joy-filled season of awe and wonder - learning from one another, learning to rely on my community, learning to accept what biologically-normal sleep looks like, attachment parenting and natural-term feeding. I also learned to stop googling so much and to trust my instincts, alongside verified evidence-based information which was the main inspiration for the Resources section on this site, where the idea for The Mama Cwtch dream began!  Dive in, discover and don't be a stranger. You weren't designed to go through matrescence alone.
